Value by Being
Work as Expression of Human Potential
by Rewriting Realities
This is the second of three essays in the Rewriting Realities installation, exploring how language, culture, and economy can be rewritten.
We have forgotten what it means to be alive.
In a world obsessed with outcome, speed, and conformity,
we stopped listening to the quiet rhythm beneath it all.
But what if the purpose of life is not to perform,
but to become?
This is not utopia.
It is a remembering.
A return to what was always true:
a world in which the Earth is not exploited,
but allowed to give.
A world where humans are not just workers,
but expressions of life unfolding.
The Earth Peoples
What is a human being?
Not a definition.
Not a role.
But a question in motion.
We do not yet know who we are.
And in that unknowing lies our greatest freedom.
Just as the acorn carries the oak,
we carry the silent code of becoming.
We are not here to fit the system.
We are here to grow roots, unfold, and bloom.
The Earth does not demand explanation.
It offers space, light, and trust.
As Alan Watts once said:
just as the apple tree apples,
the Earth peoples.
Perhaps that is all we are asked to do:
to listen for what wants to grow through us.
As every seed needs earth, every life needs belonging.
Unconditional Basic Income is not only financial policy.
It is trust, an acknowledgment of our shared human dignity:
You are seen.
You are safe.
You are enough.
Language as Key
As explored in the first poster, language is never neutral.
It shapes how we see ourselves, one another and the world we live in.
We are taught that value must be earned.
That rest must be justified.
That difference must be erased.
That life is a game, and someone has to lose.
But what if value is not a prize,
but a presence?
What if evolution is not a contest,
but a conversation?
Lichens grow not by competition,
but by weaving together algae, fungi, bacteria,
each doing what it does best.
Symbiosis, not supremacy.
Co-creation, not conquest.
This is what Value by Being truly means:
VALUE = BEING
WORK = EXPRESSION
TIME = LIFE
Not slogans,
but keys,
seeds of a different grammar of existence.
Because when language shifts,
everything can change.
Difference as Pattern
In a world shaped by value by being,
difference is not feared.
It is fundamental.
True unity is not sameness,
but the harmony of many rhythms coexisting.
Neurodivergence is not a problem.
It is a distinct way of seeing.
Sensitivity is not a weakness.
It is a way of knowing.
There is no single model of success.
Only the shared joy of unfolding,
each in our own time,
each in our own way.
Difference is not a flaw.
It is the sacred geometry of life,
the pattern by which existence unfolds and diverges.
Healing Begins with Safety
We are not separate from our bodies.
Or from each other.
Or from the Earth.
Being is not separate from doing.
Rest is not the opposite of work.
Presence is not a luxury.
Your voice is your offering.
Your care is your contribution.
You have Value by Being.
And it all begins with safety:
with the nervous system no longer in survival,
with breath,
with softness,
with space to feel.
The Soil of Transformation
Most of us are not broken.
We are overstimulated.
Underheard.
Pressed into performance before we had time to root.
Without safety, there is no imagination.
Without rest, no vision.
Without love, no transformation.
To grow into human potential,
we need different soil:
nourishment with safety, rest, and belonging.
From Domination to Partnership
To truly value human potential,
we need to grow a different kind of culture.
Not just in policy, but in patterns.
Not only in laws, but in relationships.
As feminist thinker Riane Eisler and the Breaking Down Patriarchy project have shown,
many of our systems are still rooted in domination:
power-over, fear, control, and separation.
But human beings do not thrive under domination.
We flourish in partnership.
Partnership culture means mutual care over hierarchy,
collaboration over coercion,
shared power over imposed authority.
This is not weakness.
It is a different kind of strength:
one that protects the fragile, honors the whole,
and allows difference without violence.
Because in a truly living system,
we are only as strong as our most vulnerable link.
Our health depends on how we treat the smallest, the softest, the slowest.
To build such a world, we need regenerative systems.
Not systems that extract or merely sustain,
but systems that heal, restore, and support new life.
UBI as Living Ground
This is where Unconditional Basic Income enters.
Not as a fix.
Not as charity.
But as living ground.
A quiet presence beneath every person, whispering:
You are seen.
You are safe.
You are free to become.
UBI is not the ceiling.
It is the floor,
the ground from which a new story grows.
It supports those who work,
those who care,
those who mend,
those who teach,
those who rest,
and those still finding their way.
It gives time back to life.
Value back to being.
Work back to the soul.
A Living Example
This is not a product.
It is a response:
to a world that asked me to disappear,
and a soul that refused.
Like the other posters in this trilogy - Time = Money and UBI is Social Healing - this essay is an invitation to rethink what makes humanity and life on Earth truly thrive. This essay is part of the Rewriting Realities exhibition at the BIEN Congress in Brazil.
✹ Critical Thinking Questions – Human Potential & Regenerative Culture
For readers, workers, and dreamers exploring how human potential can thrive:
- What parts of yourself have you hidden because they don’t seem “productive”?
- How does your body respond when you imagine unconditional support — safety without conditions?
- What would work look like if it were an expression of who you are, rather than a means of survival?
- What kind of cultural conditions (trust, rest, safety) would allow you to unfold into your potential?
- How would it change your relationships if difference (sensitivity, neurodivergence, etc.) was fully honored?
☀️Invitation
We invite you to go deeper.
Take the ideas from these essays as a starting point, not an endpoint.
Use them to question your own assumptions, research your own thinking, and imagine the world you most want to live in.
What would a society look like where everyone truly belongs?
How could unconditional basic income support that vision?

Your presence matters.
Human potential is not earned. It is cultivated through safety, trust, and time.
A new grammar of being is already growing beneath our feet.
Because you are.
Value by Being.
A world where everyone can live begins now.
